Q: Is a photograph necessary?

A: While there are no rules on whether to include or exclude photographs on a CV, a professional photograph that complements your career history may be helpful. However, just as it may be helpful it is likely to induce some form of bias or opinion which goes beyond your capabilities. In some countries, this form of bias is frowned upon. It is not necessary and for the most part, probably even a bad idea to include a photograph with your CV.
Equally, any other identifiable information such as date of birth does not need to be included.

Q: What is the optimum length of my CV?

A: There are no specific protocols on the length. However, there are very clear intolerances for lengthy documents and we tend to work to a 2-page document. 3 would be the maximum that we would suggest for your CV. Common sense must prevail, however, and if you do not have much experience then a 1-page document will be more appropriate. Likewise, certain sectors have specific requirements which may necessitate a longer document (e.g. academic).

Q: I feel confident about my ability to write my own CV. Why should I hire the services of a professional?

A: Every CV can be improved upon. It is possible to do your CV yourself. Bear in mind a few points. Number one: it takes time to craft a CV to properly tell the story. Number two: there are different reasons why you would want to hire the services of a professional, such as requiring a more targeted CV to better reflect your capabilities and experience. We have been providing these services for over 20 years so we know what works and we take a professional approach to customise your CV to your situation.

Q: Do you have testimonials that I can see to give me comfort about the work you do?

A: Yes, we do. Go to the testimonials section and read some of our most recent reviews.

Q: Who will actually be doing work on my career documents?

A: Our team is made up of professional recruiters, HR managers, organisational behaviourists and professional services consultants. You can be assured of the professional time and effort we will put into your requirements to give you a professional product.

Q: Do I need a different CV for every job application I make?

A: Every job has different requirements; therefore, it is possible that your CV may need to be tailored to meet these requirements. But this does not mean you need to hire our services every time you apply for a job. As long as your CV meets the minimum quality requirements (e.g., contact details, profile summary, experience, education and competencies) then you are in a better position to adjust your CV to meet the needs of each application.
We also offer selection criteria services where we help you to address the specific selection criteria of the job in question. If the selection criteria are not addressed as a minimum in some jobs your application will be screened out.

Q: Is there a specific format you send the CV and cover letter to me?

A: We will send these final versions to you in MS Word. This gives you the platform to edit them as required in future.

Q: How long does the process take?

A: This depends on our workflow. However, we have a best practice policy to turn around work within 5 business days; drafts will be provided within this period. So if you give us your baseline information and documents on a Monday, you can expect to receive the updated information and documents by the Friday. Where we anticipate that we will take longer (because of the scale of work required or our own workflow) we will communicate this with you and provide a subsequent deadline.

Q: How much will your services cost me?

A: See our pricing section for a guide on what we charge. We use a fixed price scheme so you will never be charged a follow up fee or some other kind of variable fee. One job, one fee.

Q: How confidential is my information?

A: The confidentiality of information is a big source of our professional brand. Privacy has also become a much more topical issue over the last few years. With particular reference to CV’s and resumes, we have to be very mindful of the privacy rights or expectations of our clients; for instance, if we want to interact with a third party on behalf of a client, we would be expected to ask for that specific permission. In summary we treat the topic of client confidentiality with the utmost seriousness. As a demonstration of our commitment to this principle, one of our founders has recently obtained certification as an information privacy manager.
